Artley flutes and piccolos originate in the 1930’s when Donald A Artley and other family members started the Artley Flute Co. in the famous instrument manufacturing capital of Elkhart Indiana. With innovative design, attention to detail, and efficient production techniques, Artley flutes became popular with school band programs and professional musicians. The company was renamed D & J Artley Inc. in 1953. After Donald’s death in 1955 the company changed its name to Artley {1958}. In 1960, C.G. Conn, another Elkhart-based instrument maker famous for brass instruments became the exclusive distributor. During the 1960’s, Artley introduced
clarinets
, oboes, and bassoons, becoming famous for crafting affordable student upper quality woodwind instruments.  Artley was purchased by C.G. Conn Ltd. in 1969.
We do our best to describe the condition and other than playing a few notes on the instrument, cannot give expert opinion for how well the instrument will play or whether it is needs adjustment.

Most of the piccolos we acquire are from charity auctions that are donated.  This could be an instrument that was only played a short time and has been sitting.  We highly recommend that you have a professional technician go over the instrument as it may need regulation, pad replacements and adjustment to get back to optimal playing condition.
***remember vintage instruments have sometimes been sitting for a very long time, you as an instrument owner should clean your instrument regularly.
